PVC Options for Sheets

Sheet metal used in aesthetic applications such as brushed stainless steel and aluminium sheets are products that can get scratched and damaged in transit and during handling. To prevent this Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) may be applied before fabrication such as cutting and bending, for added protection. Below we will answer your questions regarding PVC and provide some information on the different options in using PVC as a protective film?

What is PVC?

PVC, also known as vinyl is an abbreviation for Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a synthetic thermoplastic material made by polymerizing vinyl chloride. It is widely used in applications such as plumbing & waste pipes, medical devices, wire & cable insulation and protective film for metal sheets…the list goes on. It is the world’s third-most widely produced synthetic plastic polymer.

PVC Variances for Sheets

There are many different PVC variations in colour and thicknesses for different applications. Euro Steel typically keeps a range of PVC films with the two main types being Laser PVC and the Standard PVC. Laser PVC is a bit more expensive since it is 100 microns thick and it offers optimal adhesion for bubble free application. It also is easily removable even after the heat applied in the laser cutting process. We generally offer black and/or white laser PVC. The standard PVC which is 80 microns, is primarily to protect the material from damage during transportation and handling. It is known as the blue line PVC as it is white with blue lines on it. The internationally recognised brands we keep are Polyfilm and Novacel.
